??? How do you over run a runway when you are still on the runway? Mmmm. The plane “over ran the runway by 30’” yet the plane was towed off the runway? Ok.... arm chair pilots....... commmmm potent.... not one pilot talks that way. At least he knows the difference between zero and the letter “O”. It not 36”ough”. It’s 36zero...

Pilot never decided to do belly landing as he did not inform ATC for this emergency landing. As plane was at high altitude so ATC warns him to round the plane through 180 and bring the plane to its desire altitude but pilot insisted that he is fine with this altitude and he can land the pilot that was a big mistake. ATV allowed him but when the pilot decided to land, he realized that speed is high and he can't do landing so he changed his mind abruptly and tried to lift it up but unfortunately it hits the runway that caused a major damaging on both engines. So after lost of both engines, plane reduced its lifting position and fell down on model colony. This reason is quite possible.

This was a brilliant analysis and comprehensive information. At first glance, I would say the Pilot was under the 'influence,' at second glance, I'd say he was suicidle and yet the co pilot appears to have agreed by keeping silent, surely the co pilot should have taken over and to hell with protocol it must surely have been obvious that'belting down the glide path at the speeed/ht obseved, but then in some countries, the Captain is GOD, and wouldn't take too kindly to advice from his junior. a FACT i met with on various overseas postings in the Air traffic Control systems. Very tragic and very sad.Terry Offord

Many years ago (I've been retired since Nov 2005) I was landing a 767 @ KBOS. They had a 10 KT. tailwind component on the runway in use & it was raining. I told approach control "I consider landing on a wet runway with a 10 kt tailwind operationally unacceptable. We will wait until you turn the airport around." Of course they put us in a hold. We did one full holding pattern & was cleared to the airport in the next inbound leg. I was the only flight who spoke up! Of course our landing was uneventful. I was taught to "land into the wind" I knew that the wet runway substantially increases landing roll & the 10 kt tailwind nearly doubles EVERYBODYS landing distance. I'd much rather be at the hotel than the chief pilot's office!

Beautiful aircraft. MD-11 should be my favorite aircraft, since it brought me into the United States in 1994. It was Finnair, and one of the brand new MD-11's. Finnair was the MD-11 launch customer. At that time, I wanted to be on 747 of course, but I didn't realize how lucky I was to be on the MD-11. It was huge!!! 2-5-2 seat configuration!!! Beautiful machine. Now even the 747 is no longer flown on U.S. passenger carriers... America without the Twin Towers, Concorde, and DC-10 and 747 flying on local airlines is not longer the same. 777 is nice, but it's kind of bloated. 767 will be exiting service... 757 is beautiful, like a sports model. Beautiful. And of course the plane that made America what it used to be, the DC-9, MD-80, MD-90, and 717. I've flown on the 717 recently. Beautiful aircraft. You never know how much you like something, when it really becomes rare, and you really know how much you liked it when it's gone...

Given how many stall-spins occur in classic horse track GA landing patterns, are horse track landing patterns the problem? Large aircraft set up straight-in approaches miles out. Why shouldn’t GA make straight-ins the standard whenever feasible? Please note the emphasis on whenever feasible.

Did anyone else notice the number 1 engine “backfiring” just a moment before the plane stopped and how much that plane rocked around on its suspension after it came to a stop? I cannot recall seeing a plane this big moving around this much as it came to a stop where it did not either exit the runway into the grass or crash and break things. Looked like a big old 70s Lincoln doing a 60 to zero panic stop and wallowing around at the end. I wonder if the pilots had a few butterflies floating around at the end of this landing. Would love to hear the cockpit voice comments recorded on this one.

Thanks for another great update, Juan - sorry to hear that this was demonetized! As you described “reverted rubber”, you drove me to an interesting old report from NASA: ntrs.nasa.gov/search.jsp?R=19680010151 That paper is fully consistent with the FAA's description of the three forms of hydroplaning and this notion of "reverted rubber"... However, from a materials engineer’s perspective, I am a bit surprised by this insistence that the rubber is “melted”. Being vulcanized, tire rubber can only really burn, not melt or “revert to its uncured state”: Here’s a nice STEM article on the concept: sciencing.com/melt-tires-7582020.html Anyway, regardless of this minor unresolved question, thanks - as ever - for teaching me something new and interesting!

I carefully examined this long landing, I would have chosen a VOR Rwy32 as approach (according to weather conditions) www.mediafire.com/file/t8boaekevy3221e/VABB_VOR_Rwy32.pdf/file. It is true that the condition of visibility of the runway (2200mt) is not satisfied with this procedure which requires an RVR equal to 2900mt but the MDA 650 'could be valid. Furthermore, the wind component would have been upwind instead of tail. Another topic that I would also like to analyze are the capabilities of the MD11 www.mediafire.com/view/8gf72vs2bx9qnga/MD11%20Capacity.jpg# where we can note that the MTOW for this plane is around 286000 Kg, while the Takeoff (MTOW Maximum take off weight) is equal to 10800 ft (3292mt). Given these data, we should also analyze how much load remained after fuel consumption Maximum landing weight, another question that comes to my mind, were the spoilers armed? Another question to what has Autobreak Minimum-Medium-Maximum been set?

Күн мурун

Question is, why didn't they land from the opposite heading. Is there that much effort in re-routing the pattern, given the pandemic conditions with a lot less traffic? Is ATC, in general, knowledgeable about wind effects for different aircraft? What's the range of standards for different aircraft, is it broad or narrow? IOW, why didn't the airport swap the pattern given the forecast and local, known variables. Seems there was the first missed chance to avert the situation. Second would be crew, but after following this channel for a while seems there's a lot of Dumbs co-piloting Dumbers so it's par for the course. As to rubber, how much does the hot climate play into how much rubber is deposited over a given period as compared to milder climes? Has the pandemic made bad conditions worse as regards to runway maintenance?
